This Reuben Midmer & Son pipe organ,
completed and dedicated in Christmas 1920, was in need of a
major rebuild, its first in over 70 years! Originally
constructed with a bar and slider style chest action, Midmer-Losh
electrified the action in the 1940's. Extremely
reliable and long lasting (as well as being used in tracker
organs), bar and slider chests are very desirable.
For this restoration, the main bar and slider
chests were in excellent condition save for the perishable
parts (leather and pneumatic cloth), which we replaced.
All offset chests and reservoirs were rebuilt and re-leathered
as well. The console received much needed attention as
well. New tracker touch keyboards, stopboard, pedalboard
and tablets work in conjunction with a new Peterson
solid state switching system, combination action and MIDI
capability. We also prepared the organ for the future
additions of a three rank Mixture and a Fifteenth.
When new, this pipe organ went for about $2,000. The
replacement value of this instrument stands today at
approximately $200,000. Money aside, this organ is truly
a treasure. The pipework and chest construction are of
the highest quality. Specifically, the bar and slider
type chests are highly desirable and most often not
affordable in most parishes. The beautiful facade is
hand carved and constructed well. Ultimately, the sound
produced by this organ is phenomenal in such a reverberant
space. It is truly a delight for the eyes and ears!
With the restoration of this excellent instrument complete,
this church has a reliable pipe organ that will be a treasure
for many future generations in the church.
